OMAHA, Neb. — St. Paul Saints pitchers walked nine batters and hit one other, and eight of those 10 baserunners scored to provide the Omaha Storm Chasers all the assistance they needed Tuesday night to tug off a 14-4 International League victory at Werner Park.
The Saints, who entered the sport leading the West division, fell to 26-20. The Storm Chasers, last within the division and second-to-last within the International League, are 2-15 in August.
Andrew Stevenson got the Saints off to a fast start in the primary inning, hitting the second pitch of the sport out of the park for a leadoff home run, his sixteenth of the season. No. 2 hitter Austin Martin followed that with a house run of his own to place St. Paul up 2-0.
But that’s when all the things went bad for the Saints.
Omaha scored five runs off St. Paul starting pitcher Louie Varland within the second inning, benefiting from a few walks and a costly Saints error.
The Storm Chasers added two more runs within the third inning, then scored seven within the fifth to place the sport away.
