A rite of fall returns this month when St. Paul Regional Water Services reopens the Highland Park water tower to visitors who want to brave its 151-step staircase to an remark deck offering sweeping views of the Mississippi River and Twin Cities.
The tower, situated at Snelling Avenue and Ford Parkway, shall be open from 9 a.m. to five p.m. on Oct. 14 to Oct. 15. Admission is free.
The tower was designed by Clarence “Cap” Wigington, a city architect, and accomplished in 1928. He also designed the St. Paul Public Safety Constructing and Como Park Pavilion. Facings include Kasota and Bedford stone.
The open house, which shall be staffed by Regional Water employees, goals to tell residents about municipal water utilities, including water preservation, water purification and an summary of the distribution system.
