A townhall on Ramsey County’s bail reform effort will probably be held Tuesday night.
For the past three years, the county has been taking steps to reform its bail system and eliminate the disparities it could actually create. A piece group includes the Ramsey County Attorney and Sheriff’s offices, St. Paul police, the nonprofit Justice Point and crime victims.
Among the many goals: moving away from the present money bail system to 1 based on risk. A pretrial risk assessment can be administered — which might conclude while the person is being booked into jail — to find out in the event that they may be released until their first court appointment, county officials say.
The county is considered one of seven sites chosen across the country to be granted five years of research and policy support from Arnold Ventures to perform the hassle.
The townhall will probably be held from 6 to eight p.m. Tuesday on the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation, 451 N. Lexington Parkway, in St. Paul. The general public may attend via Zoom.
