The St. Paul Winter Carnival announced its 2024 Royal Family on Friday night at a coronation on the RiverCentre. For the approaching yr, Stephen Doody of South St. Paul will reign as King Boreas the 87th, and Jennifer Westerhaus of Chaska will serve alongside him as Aurora, Queen of the Snows.

Doody, who was previously the 2018 South Wind Prince, is a longtime financial adviser in South St. Paul. As a member of the South St. Paul Lions Club and the son of a Navy veteran, Doody selected “Service and Unity within the Community — One Snowball at a Time” as his Boreas motto. A graduate of the University of North Dakota and the University of St. Thomas, Doody was also inducted into the South St. Paul High School Hall of Fame in 2013. He and his wife, Maggie, have three adult children and live in South St. Paul with their goldendoodle, Henry.

Westerhaus is the president of the West Lakes Chapter of the National Charity League, a philanthropic organization that prioritizes multigenerational approaches to volunteering and leadership. Growing up, Westerhaus fondly remembers her Mexican grandma preparing food for your entire family, a practice she has carried on for friends and family members. She has also accomplished many fitness and wellness challenges and loves attending soccer games, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, and fidgeting with her family’s two dogs.
