Junior guard Kendall Blue played and began in all 33 games for St. Thomas last season. This season the 6’6” player is co-featured on the varsity’s 2024-25 season schedule with Drake Dobbs.
Asked after a workout if he’s able to tackle a more starring role, Blue responded, “I’m just attempting to work on my leadership and just being a veteran on the team, ensuring all the blokes are straight and just do every little thing we will do to get a W every night.” He’s the highest player on the opponents’ scouting report this season.
Tommies Coach Johnny Tauer said of the Woodbury native, “The largest thing I appreciate about Kendall is his ability to play with about any combination of players. He actually generally is a prolific scorer, but he doesn’t take that many shots. I believe [his] passing is his highest quality.
“He’s a gradual force on the court,” added his coach.
His first two collegiate seasons Blue principally deferred to older players, but now he has nearly 70 games of collegiate experience under his belt. Blue was the one Tommie on the preseason All-Summit League first team.
“The pace of the sport is rather a lot faster making the transition from highschool to varsity,” he admitted.”
“It’s like evolving my game higher, higher habits, and just being mentally prepared for each night and just attempting to do the very best I can,” Blue said.
Tauer said, “What we’re on the lookout for this 12 months is for him to be more assertive…and be more of a vocal leader, a natural progression from his sophomore to junior 12 months.”
UST men’s basketball is prepared for its season opener in a few weeks, and Blue said he can’t wait: “I’m feeling confident.”
